Why "simple"?

Why we called it Simple Hypnotherapy

Sonya Hudson relaxing in her calm therapy room in Wallsend, Newcastle upon Tyne

We chose the name because the hardest part of getting help is often the first step. Therapy can come wrapped in unfamiliar terms, competing claims and long lists of methods. If you're already coping with stress, a stubborn habit or low confidence, that confusion can be reason enough to put things off.

Simple Hypnotherapy sets out to remove that barrier. Each approach is explained in plain English, so you can see what it involves before you commit to anything. We're honest about what complementary therapies can and can't do. The first step is easy, too: a free, relaxed phone conversation with Sonya.

Simple doesn't mean shallow. Sessions are thoughtful and personal, and they draw on more than 20 years of experience. The name just means you shouldn't have to work hard to understand what's on offer or how to get started.

Five principles

How Sonya works with clients

Every session is different, because every client is different. These five principles stay the same, and they shape how Sonya plans and runs each appointment.

  1. Clarity

You'll always know what an approach involves and why Sonya is suggesting it. If anything is unclear, just ask, and she will explain it in everyday language.

  2. Respect

You set the pace and decide what to share. Nothing happens without your agreement, and you can pause or stop at any point.

  3. Personalisation

Sessions aren't read from a script or sold as a set programme. Sonya shapes each one around your goals, your preferences and what is going on in your life.

  4. Honesty

There are no guarantees or bold claims. If something isn't helping, Sonya will talk it through with you, and if another kind of support would suit you better, she'll say so.

  5. Safety

Complementary therapy sits alongside medical care, never in place of it. If you have a health concern, Sonya will encourage you to keep your GP informed.

Who is Sonya Hudson?

Sonya Hudson is a clinical hypnotherapist with more than 20 years' experience in therapy and personal development. Every session at Simple Hypnotherapy is with Sonya.

Over the years Sonya has trained in five complementary approaches: hypnotherapy, NLP, EFT, Reiki and counselling. That breadth means she isn't tied to one method. Instead, she can choose the approach, or mix of approaches, that best suits the person in front of her.

Her style is warm, open and relaxed. She puts a lot of weight on building trust, because people tend to get more from sessions when they feel safe, comfortable and properly listened to. You won't be rushed, and you won't be asked to share more than you want to.

Why does Sonya use more than one approach?

People come to sessions with very different needs. Someone who wants to stop smoking may need something quite different from someone coping with grief or exam nerves. Having several approaches to draw on lets Sonya adapt, and sometimes combine them, for example using EFT to calm a strong feeling and hypnotherapy to rehearse a new habit. She will always explain why she is suggesting a particular approach, and you can say if you'd prefer something else.

Sonya practises from Hadrian Lodge West in Wallsend, Newcastle upon Tyne. Simple Hypnotherapy is one of the ways her established practice is presented online, rather than a separate clinic. You can read more about her work at sonyahudson.com.

Qualifications & memberships

Sonya's qualifications and training

EFT International Accredited Practitioner seal held by Sonya Hudson in Newcastle upon Tyne

Sonya holds diplomas in clinical and analytical hypnotherapy, NLP and psychotherapeutic counselling, along with accredited training in EFT and Reiki. Her full list of qualifications is shown here, together with the professional bodies she belongs to.

Is Sonya a registered hypnotherapist?

Yes. Sonya is registered with the Complementary & Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC), a voluntary register accredited by the Professional Standards Authority. Complementary therapies are not regulated by law in the UK, so it's always reasonable to ask a practitioner about their training and registration.

She is also a member of The Hypnotherapy Association and the UK Reiki Federation, and an EFT International Accredited Practitioner. Our guide explains what else to look for when choosing someone to work with.

What does her training mean for your sessions?

Each qualification adds a different set of skills. Hypnotherapy training covers using relaxation and focused attention to support change, while NLP looks at how language and habits of thought affect the way we feel. Counselling training underpins the listening side of every session, even when the main approach is something else.

Sonya's counselling qualification is a Level 3 diploma, so her counselling-based sessions offer supportive talking for everyday difficulties and life changes. They are not a specialist psychotherapy or crisis service. If you need more specialised help, she will suggest speaking to your GP.

Sharing what she knows

Alongside her client work, Sonya has trained hypnotherapists and coaches, led workshops and spoken on local radio about hypnosis, NLP and coaching. Teaching other practitioners means explaining each technique clearly and carefully, and that same plain-spoken style carries into her sessions with clients.

Which approaches does Sonya offer?

Hypnotherapy is at the heart of the practice, and NLP, EFT, Reiki and counselling-based sessions are available too, either on their own or combined. Each approach has its own page explaining what it involves and what a session is like. If you're not sure which would suit you, our guide to choosing an approach compares them, or you can browse the problems we help with.
