Curiosity
Many people simply want to find out what the experience is like and what their mind brings up.
Specialist hypnotherapy session
Past life regression uses hypnosis to guide you through scenes that some people experience as memories of a previous life. Whatever you believe about where those images come from, some people find the session thought-provoking and deeply relaxing.

Past life regression is a specialist use of hypnosis. While you are deeply relaxed, the practitioner invites you to imagine going back before your birth and to notice whatever scenes, people or feelings come to mind. Some people describe a detailed story, while others notice only fragments, colours or a strong emotion.
At Simple Hypnotherapy, past life regression is offered by Sonya Hudson, a clinical hypnotherapist with more than 20 years' experience, for whom regression work is a long-standing specialism. It sits alongside her hypnotherapy practice and uses the same calm, collaborative approach. You stay aware throughout, you can speak or open your eyes at any time, and nothing happens without your agreement.
People come to it with very different beliefs. Some see it as a spiritual experience, while others treat it as an exploration of their own imagination. You don't need to believe in reincarnation, and Sonya won't ask you to.
Hypnosis itself usually feels pleasant, like a deep, calm daydream in which you remain aware of your surroundings and of Sonya's voice.
What you notice during the regression varies a great deal. Images may arrive as clear pictures, as a sense of knowing, or as feelings in the body. It is also completely normal for very little to come to mind, especially the first time. There is no right or wrong experience, and Sonya will never push you to produce a story.
Why people explore it
People are drawn to past life regression for many reasons. These are some of the most common.
Many people simply want to find out what the experience is like and what their mind brings up.
Some find that the themes and images in a session give them a new way to think about their current life.
For people with an interest in reincarnation, it can feel like a meaningful personal experience.
Even when little comes to mind, the long, guided relaxation is often restful in its own right.
It can be a gentle introduction to how hypnosis feels before trying hypnotherapy for a specific goal.
During your appointment
Every session is shaped around you, and the conversations before and after matter as much as the regression itself.
You talk about why you're interested, what you hope to get from the session and any health matters Sonya should know about.
Sonya guides you into a comfortable, relaxed state, usually seated with your eyes closed, at a pace that suits you.
She invites you to notice and describe whatever comes to mind, using open questions rather than telling you what to see.
You return to full alertness, have time to settle and talk through anything that felt meaningful or surprising.
Realistic expectations
For most people a session is a calm, gentle experience. It isn't suitable for everyone, so Sonya will talk with you about your health and your reasons for coming before you book.
There is no scientific evidence that past life regression gives access to real previous lives. Researchers who study memory have shown that hypnosis can make imagined scenes feel vivid and true, and can increase people's confidence in a memory without making it more accurate. That is why we describe the images that come up as meaningful to explore, rather than as facts about history.
For the same reason, regression should never be used to try to uncover forgotten events from your own life, such as suspected abuse. If you're struggling with a difficult memory, counselling or a conversation with your GP is the right place to start.
Sonya's style is open and respectful of whatever you believe. She uses non-leading questions, so the content of the session comes from you rather than from her, and she keeps checking that you're comfortable.
If anything during a session feels upsetting, she will gently bring you back to full alertness and give you time to talk it through. She'll also tell you honestly if she thinks regression isn't the right choice for you at the moment.
About Sonya HudsonIf you're mainly curious, a single session is often enough, although some people like to return later to explore further. You're never tied into a fixed number of sessions.
Fees aren't listed on the website. Sonya explains the cost and how long the session is likely to take during your free telephone consultation, before you commit to anything.
Sessions take place at Sonya's clinic at Hadrian Lodge West, 28 Rosedale, Wallsend, a short distance from Newcastle upon Tyne city centre. Appointments are by arrangement, and you can ask about online sessions when you call.
Questions
Past life regression is a complementary, exploratory experience and isn't a treatment for any health condition. If you're living with a mental health condition or have experienced recent trauma, please talk to your GP before booking. Read our health information.
No. People come with all kinds of beliefs, including none. Many treat the session as an interesting way to explore their imagination, and Sonya respects whatever view you hold.
That's quite common, especially the first time, and it doesn't mean you've done anything wrong. The deep relaxation is often enjoyable in its own right, and you can talk afterwards about whatever you did notice.
No, and it shouldn't be used for that. Memories that seem to surface under hypnosis can feel convincing but be inaccurate. If you're troubled by something from your past, counselling or your GP is a better starting point.
It uses the same relaxed, focused state, but the purpose is different. Hypnotherapy usually works towards a specific change, such as stopping smoking, while past life regression is an open-ended, exploratory experience.
The first step is a free phone call with Sonya. You can ask questions, talk about what's on your mind and then decide whether you'd like to book. There's no pressure either way.
